In March 2005 a competition was organised to design a logo for 'elforyn', the ivory substitute.
The competition took as its theme the conservation of elephants and other animals that inadvertently become suppliers of valuable raw materials (ivory etc.) and was an opportunity for all participants to make their own active contribution to this cause. The challenge was to find a brand name / logo for the ivory-substitute "elforyn" that could be sculpted from the piece of base material supplied. The competition was open to carving students as well as to those studying jewellery design.
On the jury were representatives from Bachmann Kunststoff Technologien GmbH, the College for Wood and Ivory Working Handicrafts in Michelstadt, the State College for Gold and Silversmiths in Hanau and the Erbach Guild of Ivory Carvers.
